A brilliant update! Thank you! 😍🙂👍🧡
BeneathClouds
What an amazing update! 😍

I really appreciate the new features, especially the XY Controller and Layer Morphing!

Thank you so much! 🧡
Soarer
Wow really cool! Looks like a great update 😀
Morphing is a bit misleading though since no voice parameters are morphed. I would call it layer mixing rather than morphing but I know it has been used and named like this traditionally. Should be pretty fun and useful.
Exited to try the XY controller and everything else when I get home.
Great work Kodamo 👍

OMG OMG OMG I GOTTA UPDATE NOW. SO GLAD YOU PUT A XY CONTROLLER LIKE I ASKED FOR AND WANTED, THANK YOU!!
BROCKSTAR
Had to reply again, you all really do listen to your customers, that is great! The xy controller, morphing, volume control for the midi player etc.. all things I was concerned about and asked for :) Thank you so much!

WOW, downloading now!

Having so much fun with the layer morphing. Just had some extra ideas for it! 😍

1) Right now it can only morph between 4 layers at all 4 corners, but what about making it morph 8 layers by putting the other 4 on each sides of the morphing square.

2) A way we can record and draw our own pattern on the layer morphing screen? Like add a record button, we draw our pattern on screen with finger then unrecord and it loops the pattern we did 😀

3) Randomizer for the LFO that never stays the same? Randomly morphs all over the grid lol.

Just some ideas I had, maybe more ideas come later haha.

Well done guys. BPM on delays is most welcome.

So is the morphing actually not morphing but just crossfading?
real morphing like the montage would be totally incredible.
KODAMO
"Morphing" is commonly used by manufacturers to describe crossfading indeed. Each FM layer may use different algorithms so a "real morphing" (interpolation between parameters) is impossible, at least in a way that make sense to the ear.
The Montage may do it differently but is also way slower, with noticeable stepping if you want to move the morphing point while playing
DX100
Yes the Montage is not instantly real time, there is a process wait time and then it becomes close to real time.

Smart morf they call it, I don't know how they handle different ALG's?
Would like to try the Montage, I sold mine before they made that feature :(
Soarer
Yes the montage seems really laggy and the stepping doesn't sound good. Morphing should be possible in a pleasing way though. The PolyBrute is good example of that though it morphs between an A and a B part of the patch with fewer parameters than the EFM. Maybe something like that would work better than morphing between 2 completely different patches. Didn't try the X/Y controller probably yet which may be exactly that.

What is the difference between the v5.2 (July 18th) and v5.2b (July 22nd) releases?
KODAMO
Feedback source showed numbers from 0 to 5 instead of 1 to 6. That's the only difference. You decide if it's worth upgrading again, we suggest waiting a bit since bugs that are reported just after a release are usually immediately fixed so we may go through a few revisions. This is represented by letters after the firmware version (b, c, d...). If no bugs are reported after about one week, the firmware is locked until the next release usually a few months later.

Thanks for the explanation 👍

Hi, I’m late to the party here

Just downloaded the other day. Overall it seems really exciting, but unless I’m missing something here, I’m finding that the clock divisions on the LFO just doesn’t seem to actually do anything at all anymore. Speed seems to be entirely controlled by the speed parameter, and there isn’t really any MIDI syncing going on at all?
KODAMO
We just checked and it works here. Are you sure you're sending MIDI clock to the EssenceFM? Can you tell us more about the settings you're using? (which mode, MIDI input, channel settings...)
On recent firmwares, Speed parameter is used as default when no clock is received. As soon as a clock is detected it takes priority.
Xariylebrycean
You’re right actually… I had decided to update the OS on my main sequencer at the same time as the Essence, after further testing it appears it is actually the sequencer that’s at fault here.

Any possibility of keeping the patch morpher LFO enabled while navigating through other menus?

When assigning the LFO to feedback level in the mod matrix, there's no more sound. Am I the only one ?

edit 1 : This will not happen all the time, another issue when modulating the feedback level with the LFO, I can here a light noise (I'm not talking about the feedback noise you get when pushing the feedback to the max) the ratio of the modulation is set to 10%

edit 2 : the sound disappeared again after assigning the LFO to the algo, so I guess it has to do with the global section of the mod matrix ?
Soarer
Pitch bend is resetting to +48 every time i turn on my unit.
KODAMO
If your Global Channel setting (Global > MIDI) is set to MPE this is normal. In other modes, pitch bend should be initialized to 2 semitones at startup.

10% ratio means a lot of precision is lost, hence the noises when modulating the feedback. Try using a lower volume on that operator, so you can use higher feedback values and use a bigger ratio in the mod matrix.

It depends on how you configured your operators. Randomly forcing an algorithm may result in no sound and this is normal. (example: OP1 carrier volume 127 and OP2 modulator volume 10. If you switch the carrier and modulator, you'll hear almost no sound, or no sound at all if OP2 volume is zero). Algorithm as a modulation destination is only for fun/experimental things, it's very hard to use in a controlled way.

Thanks. Any release date for the next fimware ?
Soarer
Yes got it now. After having set it to Omni and changed the Pitch value it was still at +48 after first restart. After second restart it was at +2.
I think it should remember your last used setting since I always set it to a higher value.
