How to control MIDI CC from Ableton
| AlexA | Hello everyone, I would like to control some midi control change CC of the EssenceFM from my DAW Ableton Live. For exemple, I would like to write some automation for the knob 1, knob 2... And I would like to get the CC from the EssenceFM in Ableton Live. I read, in the manual, and inside the machine, that Knob 1 is CC 16... But, I don't know how to do with this machine ! Someone ca help me. Best regards Alex |
KODAMO![]() | Hello On the EssenceFM you don't control the knobs with CC, you send CC to directly control the sounds. You can send (with automation) any CC from 0 to 127, if the corresponding CC is mapped in the sound's modulation matrix, it will respond. When you turn the knobs on the Performance page, each knob emits a CC depending on how you setup them. But the knob themselves can't be controlled with CC. Maybe in a next firmware if you think it's useful. |
| AlexA | Hello, Thank you for your reply. My question was not correct (controlling knob was a bad example) but now I can control any parameters of the EFM from my DAW using the modulation matrix. The modulation matrix was the key ! Best, Alex |

But are you suggesting that we can map a CC to any parameter in the mod matrix? I would love to do that and save, so I don't have to think about it again. Also if I am understanding properly, it seems like the best CCs to map would be 1-40, since those don't seem to be assigned to any effects. Also looks like you can record delay throws and things like that with CC's 91 and 93. Just making sure I am understanding correctly, since this could be very powerful, especially since this synth has a filter on it. |
KODAMO![]() | Yes any CC can be assigned to any parameter (from the Destination list), and these are saved on a per-voice basis. If your patch uses several voices, you have even more modulations slots available. Avoid mapping CCs that have hardwired behaviors in the synth like sustain pedal or bank select but nothing prevents you from doing that if you really want to. |
