MIDI automation
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 24 Oct 2021, 08:03 PM HiI can’t find anything in the manual on midi automation apart from the section at the end where it mentions how to control the effects? The other day in a session I resorted to just using the common midi controllers are available in Ableton which was only annoyingly pitch bend When I relied on the mod matrix like this to create a modulation from Ableton I was very limited in terms of control options I might be asking a couple of different questions here but I’m interested in the following: How do I control synth parameters from Ableton without using the mod matrix? Can I control anything? I wanted to control the filter envelope attack for a specific operator |
KODAMO![]() | Posted on 24 Oct 2021, 09:02 PM When I relied on the mod matrix like this to create a modulation from Ableton I was very limited in terms of control options What do you mean by limited ? Voice-related parameters are controlled via the modulation matrix. Standard workflow is to first select a CC as source, then setup a destination. After that the sound can be controlled by any external controller/DAW by sending that CC. Also the EssenceFM will respond to a lot of pre-defined CC for channel/part related parameters: channel volume, pan, portamento time, pitch bend range, mono/poly mode, effect send levels, effect parameters... |
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 24 Oct 2021, 10:49 PM How do you do that? I can only see the predefined controllers in the sources list in the mod matrix |
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 24 Oct 2021, 11:02 PM Can you also confirm what would be the name for op2 filter envelope stage 1 (there’s nothing I can find in the manual explaining the abreviated naming convention used) |
KODAMO![]() | Posted on 25 Oct 2021, 01:43 AM Selecting Control Change in the list will let you choose the CC you want.Destination is Global > FltEG Sg1 Time (meaning "Filter Envelope Generator Segment 1 time") op2 filter envelope stage 1 That does not exist, Filter is global to the voice, not tied to any operator. I assumed in my answer that you talked about the filter, not the operator 2. |
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 26 Oct 2021, 10:24 PM HiThanks Sorry i made a mistake in my question .. its actually the amp envelope im looking to be able to automate stages of If i wanted to automate the attack of the amp envelope for op2 .. is this possible? |
KODAMO![]() | Posted on 27 Oct 2021, 01:34 AM Yes. You have a list of all possible modulations on page 22 on the manual : https://kodamo.org/doc/efm_user_manual_5.0_en.pdfUnder Per-operator destinations, Eg Sg1-5 Time do what you're looking for. |
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 27 Oct 2021, 02:15 AM Brilliant, thanks so much for your answer! |
DJ Fresh![]() | Posted on 27 Oct 2021, 02:20 AM One more question (je suis desole)The source ‘Control Change (Any)’ This suggests I can map any CC number here but I can’t see a way to do this? Does this mean ‘All’ (any value from any cc will be the source)… otherwise how / where do you set the actual controller number Ie. If I have a keyboard with a knob that is cc39 how would I map cc39 to this? |
KODAMO![]() | Posted on 27 Oct 2021, 06:10 PM When you select Control Change as source you can then select any CC from 0 to 127 from a list. On the manual we wrote "Any" to avoid taking a few pages just listing all CC's |
