Mask1EX MK2 and MPE?

icaria36
Hi! I just got a Mask1EK MK2 and the first impression is VERY GOOD. Congratulations to the team, what a beautiful little innovative and of course good sounding synth you have created -- and with personality.

I read on https://www.amazona.de/test-kodamo-mask1ex-mk2-synthesizer/ that MPE is supported as well. I was a bit surprised because the product page doesn't mention it. Now that I can test (with an Osmose CE) I get some sounds, not responding to MPE but most probably what a regular MIDI processor does when an MPE signal comes. Poly aftertouch works very well, but that is a different story.

So what is the answer? Did Amazona get it wrong with MPE or is there a setting somewhere that I need to enable? (I checked the Mask1 manual, which doesn't mention MPE either).

Hi,
There is no support for MPE currently. Maybe Amazona mistaken it with poly aftertouch?
It might be added in a future firmware though 👍

Thank you for your reply, and looking forward to MPE support in the Mask*! The sounds of this synth engine already have the potential to be very expressive (and many presets are very expressive with aftertouch). Adding MPE would bring more of this expression.

Slightly related, there is this interesting comparison:

* Osmose CE in MPE mode connected to Mask1EX MK2 directly: sounds broken.
* Osmose CE in MPE mode connected to Bitwig, and then sending notes to Mask1EX inserted in a Bitwig track using the "HW Instrument" device (without enabling "Use MPE")... sounds great!

Nothing to do with MPE. It is just a side effect of the Osmose CE's great registration of Z/vertical move of the keys, which makes the synth sound as soon as you start pressing slightly the keys (in the way I have configred my Osmose CE).
