CC knob bug
Avi F![]() | Hi! I have the current EssenceFM mkii firmware. I only discovered it because I wanted to use the 6 knobs to make a hammond drawbar sound with the knobs, but to have each one change volume for up to 11 different drawbars for two different patch layers, to make a preset template kind of thing, to make other organ sounds with later. I noticed, after trying to create a drawbar organ type of sound, assigning the operator volume 'organ pitches'] to each of the knobs, 1-6, but now, [and this is at the voice level of sound making], I got a bug with when i turned the knob, volume was at zero, but quietly 'twitched' on then off again every turn of the knob as i held down a note on my keyboard. The same problem occurs when I am on Voice A127 preset "Slider (Organ knobs)". I don't know if its a factory sound I over-wrote, or the original, but the 6 slots in the mod matrix are CC control change, going to knobs 1-6 respectively, which have destinations of operators 1-6 volume. I hadn't had this issue previously so felt I needed to report it here. It isn't all the functions of the 6 knobs that are not working, it seems only specifically limited to when the matrix source assigns knobs 1-6 for parameters. Yet, if I go in to the performance button, and select Turn Knobs 1-6 factory preset, This works fine. The sounds of each virtual drawbar, change normally as expected. So it seems affected primarily on the voice part. Not sure exactly but thats what it seems like in my case. If I go to global and go to msg monitor, the knobs dont register on the received midi messages page. But when I play with the ccs as above, i get the volume change anomaly unless I am on performance level like 'turn knobs 1-6' which sounds ok, but not when such assignments are present in patch or voice level sounds Ive made that depend on those knobs for parameter changes. I did not ever really try this sound in a while but have no issues with making sounds on the synth, unless I want to use the 6 knobs to control things. I will test more to see if it affects other parameters besides operator volume. --- So, with some more testing - unfortunately, on my essenceFM, it does affect frequency multiplier as well, when sent to CC knobs. I get no sound after assigning to this parameter. Has anyone else noticed this? Im unsure what could be causing it. In fact all parameters on my synth seem affected by this specific issue [only when i assign to cc control change - knobs, for the parameters - otherwise, I hear sounds as long as they dont involve that CC - knob pathway]. For the cc knob source controlling other operator destinations such as Frequency Course, that becomes sounding like op volume going up and down when I turn the knob. Frequency Fine also, just volume. Waveform - same thing. So theres definitely something going on, I'm just not sure what. |
KODAMO![]() | Hi, Thanks for reporting this, we'll do some tests tomorrow to see if we manage to reproduce the issue and will keep you updated 👍 |
Avi F![]() | I should add that in my current setup, my mask1 is the controller for the essencefm, and I had attempted to update the mask1 to 3.6 from 3.5 yesterday, and left the midi from essencefm plugged into the Mask1 (and essence fm also was powered on) while I tried to do the mask1 update. I dont know if this created the issue above, or not - the mask1 update did not succeed for some reason - maybe it was the midi was still connected? Or I didnt do that last step with the DFU or understand that part. Anyway I had to cycle the power on mask1 and it remains at version 3.5 still. |
Avi F![]() | updated my essenceFM to latest firmware, no issues doing so. [Also the Mask1 keyboard - had to update chrome]. The voice - mode knobs for use as CC knob matrix destinations still are steppy on voice level but i just discovered on performance level that after assigning it to the patch level , attempting to do knob cc turns on performance level works- flawlessly. I'm realizing this now and feel a little foolish 😆 it is prob meant to be used that way |
