Interested in the EssenceFM
Fotopaul | Posted on Mon 29 Jun 2020, 10:49 PM Hi!Really curious about the EssenceFM, very new to FM in general but this synth with it's UI and big screen looks really fun and easy to start with! This is my current setup: Roland Integra-7 BlackBox Digitone Digitakt Analog Heat MKII Strymon BigSky TC M350 MioXL Squarp Pyramid Since I use a Squarp Pyramid the sequencers of the my Digitone/Digitakt isn't really utilized that much, so I'm contemplating replacing them with the EssenceFM How does the Digitone (only for parts) compare to the EssenceFM (if at all) in terms of sound design and sound quality? I do not have a rack that is easily accessible so I would need to use this in desktop mode, does it sit flat or at an angle when used in desktop mode? Thank you for any advice input! |
KODAMO | Posted on Wed 01 Jul 2020, 04:30 PM Hi,I think you also contacted us by email but I'll also answer here for everyone ;) How does the Digitone (only for parts) compare to the EssenceFM (if at all) in terms of sound design and sound quality? You have many more options with the EssenceFM: 300 stackable voices vs 8, 6 operators vs 4, much more intuitive UI, probably more versatile envelopes (6 points lin/exp with loop points), editable waveforms and the list goes on. About the sound quality we aren't sure as we don't have a Digitone to compare, but the EssenceFM has an anti-aliasing filter on the waveforms which is pretty rare on hardware FM synths. On the analog side they are probably equivalent, most modern gear have great DACs and noise-free outputs. I do not have a rack that is easily accessible so I would need to use this in desktop mode, does it sit flat or at an angle when used in desktop mode? It can sit flat with its rubber pads, on be used tilted with the brackets (3 different angles possible) |
