Essence not passing midi clock out

dstengle
In attempting to get a beat-synced delay hooked up, I can see that the the Essence is not sending clock out the THRU port. I actually don't see anything going out the THRU port. The clock also doesn't look terribly stable (in the voice sequencer) compared to another device like the analog rytm I have on the same USB chain.

Is there some configuration of this in a future update? I'm assuming the thru port only makes sense in voice or patch mode at best, but clock could always go through?

The EssenceFM only receives clock. If some clock is sent through MIDI In then it will be repeated over MIDI Thru. Getting the voice sequencer to generate its own clock could be done, although it sounds more like a feature for fully-fledged sequencers.

The voice sequencer is perfectly in sync, even when the BPM indicator is slightly off. This is due to how MIDI works, usually you can get a more precise BPM display if you average clocks on a longer period (that's what is done in the upcoming firmware).

In my current setup the essence is receiving midi clock but NOT passing it through. Sorry for bringing up two different things. I can tell it is receiving because of the voice sequencer (which is why I mentioned it), but I'm not seeing the clock on the thru when I look with midi-ox.

I should also clarify that I'm getting midi over the USB A port on the back and looking for the clock on the din thru and USB host ports.

This is normal the MIDI DIN Thru is connected in hardware to the DIN In, USB does not share the same path. We could add an option to send any received data to the MIDI Out. It should work, many synths without a real Thru output do that but it's not the best for latency especially if you chain devices. Best would be to use MIDI DIN for your input.
