MIDI CCs on Ch. 1 in MPE mode

korhanerel
Hi there,

I am new to the EssentialFM and despite having read most of the manual, I may have missed the solution to this, if there is one.

In MPE mode, EssentialFM seems to ignore MIDI CC sources in the Modmatrix. When I assign MIDI CC 22 to an operators parameter, nothing happens (yes, I set the modmatrix parameters correctly). I can see MIDI CC 22 coming in on the MIDI CC monitor on the Global screen, but on the ModMatrix page, the Input Value remains at 0. I send the MIDI CC on channel 1.

Am I doing something wrong? If not, then I'd strongly request this as a feature: allowing MIDI CCs to control parameters in MPE mode - as long as they are sent on CH 1.

Thanks

I am not sure if this is related, but I have a similar issue.

My controller, the Linnstrument, was sending Midi Sustain messages on Channel 1.
I could see them being received by my EssenceFM, but sustain was not working.

When I disabled the Master Channel and just used Note-per-channel mode the Sustain Message began to work.

I was able to solve my issue, but it sound like MPE with a master channel might need tweaking.

Master Channel is not implemented. Most controllers allow not to use it (sending per-channel messages instead), which is way more compatible with all devices so we recommend to enable that by default.

Hi

The Sensel Morph can be designed as a part MPE/part regular controller and I would really like to control sound parameters (at least non-MPE ones) using MIDI CCs. I think not implementing this will make the Kodamo not reach its full potential as an instrument. It might be fine for those who use it mainly for bread-and-butter sounds, but as Kodamo is much more capable than that and yields itself very nicely to avant-garde performances, it's a pity this MIDI CC feature (which is available on the Hydrasynth and works just fine) will not be implemented.

I mean... just put in in there and tell the users that they should make sure their controllers support it. It is an option anyway. If people are happy with not using master channel CCs, they will simply not assign CCs to any parameters. Simple as that. 😄

The main added value of MPE is to have per note/per channel sound control for best expression, and the EssenceFM does that just fine. It has nothing to do with the master channel which simply allows to save some bandwidth when enabled.
We didn't say we won't implement it, we may. But in its current state it already works well and will respond to any CC your MPE controller generates (pressure, Y position...)

Ok I will investigate some more and see how your implementation works. Will report back (regarding use with Sensel Morph).
